Commentary: Discounts as the new standard: Czechs are changing their shopping habits
Discounts have dominated sales in Czech stores and people already take them for granted. That's why the famous Black Friday is no longer such an event and customers are waiting for even better prices before Christmas, writes marketer Tomáš Vacek in a comment.
Black Friday is behind us and Christmas is ahead. What will this year's holidays be like in terms of shopping? Despite official data on a slight economic recovery and growth, including, for example, statistics for this October, when retail sales excluding motor vehicle sales and repairs increased again and increased by 5.5 percent year-on-year, we can say that so far we are rather observing caution among consumers in the market. They are carefully considering their expenses and saving wherever possible.
According to Nielsen IQ's 2023 analysis, consumer behavior has changed significantly in the past period. Customers have been more careful with their spending for some time and are more focused on the value they get for their money.
Discounts, which used to encourage unplanned purchases, have become so common that many customers russia phone number data now automatically wait for discounts before making a purchase, knowing that one will soon appear. The full price often serves as a starting point for setting a discount, according to Nielsen IQ.
And as we can see, this trend is also evident in the Czech Republic, where consumers are increasingly looking for special offers and discounts. The data shows that discounts are no longer just a tool to activate consumers to make unplanned purchases, but have become a standard that customers expect. The full price is thus losing its original role and serving more as a springboard for setting discount promotions.
The phenomenon of this Christmas
This year's Christmas season also brings an interesting phenomenon in the form of Tuesday's Christmas Day, which significantly affects customer shopping behavior and the logistical capabilities of e-shops. For many online stores, December 19th is a key date - carriers often guarantee timely delivery of orders until this day.
