The microblogging network Twitter has recently announced that it will begin restricting content in countries that have a "different" concept of freedom of expression, which in some cases could lead to its permanent closure.

"Starting today, we will have the ability to not publish user comments in some countries, but will publish them in others," the US company announced in a blog post.

The reason is apparently that, “as it grows internationally,” Twitter operates in “countries with different ideas about freedom of expression,” forcing the company to adapt to their laws.

As an example of the comments that will be restricted, Twitter has mentioned the possibility of not publishing comments with Nazi content in Germany and France, countries where the advocacy of this ideology is prohibited.

However, the social network has acknowledged brazil telegram data that this need to adapt to national regulations could lead to its closure in some countries. "Some differ so much from our ideas that we will not be able to exist there," it said.

This decision marks a turning point in the policy adopted by the company last year in response to the outbreak of the Arab Spring. At that time, the role of social media was crucial to the success of the popular protests.
