Microsoft's mistake with IE

Post by papre12 »

When Gillette, the market leader in razors, launched its Gillette 3, it was directly attacking its own Gillette 2. This cannibalized its own product but also made entry more difficult for any competitor (more recently, Wilkinson has been faster than Gillette with its Quattro razor).
This is what Microsoft failed to do with its Internet Explorer, allowing Firefox to eat away at several of its market share.

What could Microsoft do now? I think they should start by shop quickly launching an Internet Explorer 7 that's as secure as Firefox (security is one of Microsoft's weak points) and with features that make Internet Explorer a much more convenient product than Firefox. How about Hotmail/MSN Messenger integrated into Internet Explorer?

I still like Internet Explorer with the Google Toolbar more than Firefox with its legion of fans. However, I hate MSN (just as I hate the Yahoo! Toolbar: too intrusive). If Microsoft integrated MSN, they'd definitely lose me as a customer.
