Legal Actions and Settlement
Following the breach, a class action lawsuit was filed against T-Mobile, alleging inadequate cybersecurity measures. In response, T-Mobile agreed to a $350 million settlement to compensate affected individuals. The settlement received final approval on June 29, 2023.
Eligible individuals who filed claims by the January 23, 2023 deadline could receive compensation in two forms:
Out-of-Pocket Losses: Reimbursement of up to $25,000 for documented expenses related to identity theft or fraud resulting from the breach.

Alternative Cash Payment: A flat payment of $25, or $100 for California residents as of August 1, 2021, for those without documented losses.

Additionally, T-Mobile offered two years of free identity theft protection services to all affected customers.
Delays in Settlement Payments
Although payments were initially scheduled communication directors email lists for April 2025, unforeseen delays have postponed distribution to May 2025. Eligible claimants will receive payments via mail, direct deposit, or electronic methods.
