AI chatbots are computer-controlled programs that use artificial intelligence to communicate with humans using natural language. They can learn and adapt to provide realistic and relevant responses to user queries.
Gemini: Google's answer to the AI revolution
We begin with a journey through time that demonstrates the current momentum and speed of AI development. A lot has happened at Google in just one year:
February 2023 Google releases Bard
May 2023 PaLM 2 is integrated into Bard; Bard is now available in 40 languages and 230 namibia phone number data countries; Bard is now included in Google products such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and others
December 2023 Gemini is introduced; Bard is now based on the Gemini Pro model
February 2024 Bard is renamed to Gemini; Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0 is now available as a paid version and runs under the Gemini Ultra model.
April 2024 The testing phase for Gemini Ultra 1.5 starts
Gemini in detail
Gemini, originally known as Bard, is a Large Language Model (LLM) developed by DeepMind. It is based on a family of language models specifically designed to understand and generate text, as well as process images. The model has 13 billion parameters and was trained using web pages and books.
Gemini marks a significant advance in Google's AI efforts, building on the successes and lessons learned from previous projects such as PaLM and LaMDA. Gemini aims to set new standards not only in text processing but also in image analysis, giving it a unique position compared to other models.
Google itself says Gemini is Google's "largest and most powerful AI language model." It's also said to be the most flexible AI language model, as it can be used both in data centers and on mobile devices. It comes in three versions:
Gemini Ultra : The most powerful model for highly complex and multimodal tasks. It is optimized for efficient deployment on Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and delivers top performance across a wide range of benchmarks.
Gemini Pro : A performance and cost-optimized model that offers significant performance across a wide range of tasks, including strong reasoning and broad multimodal capabilities.
Gemini Nano : The most efficient model, designed for on-device deployment. There are two versions of Nano, with 1.8 billion (Nano-1) and 3.25 billion (Nano-2) parameters, targeting low- and high-memory devices, respectively. These models are trained by distilling larger Gemini models and optimized for deployment.
