What is TikTok all about?

TikTok is an app for iOS and Android that allows users to create and share 15-second videos.
It works like most social media apps where you have followers who like and comment on your content.
With the help of hashtags, users can find content by theme. On the surface, TikTok doesn't seem much different from most other apps, but it also has a lot of fun and interesting content.
Lip-sync videos are popular these days, but so are short videos featuring parkour moves, band promotions, magic tricks, and other stunts.
The editing tools are one of its best features, providing users with the resources to create entertaining videos, and it also has some interesting features, such as the ability to record your reactions to videos as you watch them.
Users can also record their own videos using the audio from another video.
TikTok was released in China in 2016 and was previously named "Douyin", before being rebranded to TikTok for the international market a year later.
Today, the app is one of the fastest growing apps on the market and cambodia consumer email list consistently ranks in the top three free downloads on the Apple Store.
In an effort to build a wider user base, parent company ByteDance merged TikTok with the popular app musical.ly, keeping the TikTok name but incorporating all of musical.ly's content into TikTok.
Who uses TikTok?
Musciall.ly is aggressively targeting the female-skewed Gen Z demographic, and it remains to be seen whether this will actually change things for TikTok. However, younger generations remain overwhelmingly in favor, with 30% of users under the age of 66. So is the proportion of women among TikTok's users.
It is popular internationally, with large numbers of users in the United States, India, and China's Douyin, which has a reported 40 billion monthly users.
Douyin has been operating in China since 2017. Initially, over 50% of users were under 24 years old. Notably, early Douyin users seem to continue using the platform as they get older, meaning that the average age of Douyin users is gradually increasing. As of January 2018, only 31.8% of Douyin users were under 24 years old, 23.4% were between 25 and 30 years old, and 23.4% were between 31 and 35 years old. It will be interesting to see if we see similar trends to TikTok in other parts of the world over time.
