What happened?
From mid-November to early December, our users engineering email list were reporting that their emails sent to Outlook were being marked as Spam. While we initially thought this was an isolated issue, we soon realized that this issue affected all emails sent from any email address on tutanota.com. The issue was still unresolved three weeks later, so we made it public with the following blog post.
For us, this process is further proof that big tech companies are capable of solving these kinds of problems, but they are not willing to do so for “any company.” I am sure there are many other smaller companies facing similar problems that cannot reach the press or have other means to make these problems public.

That is why Big Tech needs to be further scrutinised as gatekeepers. Even if the cause is a technical problem, Big Tech must be held accountable and fix these problems within a reasonable timeframe, when asked to do so, not when the press starts talking about it.
