For some time now, the topic of “mindset” has been dominating the world’s agenda, whether in the workplace or in informal conversations with friends. With the new coronavirus pandemic, the topic has become even more pressing and there is a lot of talk about “having a new mindset”.
But what are mindsets? How can we use them to our advantage in our personal and professional lives?
That's what we're going to check out now!
Definition of mindset
Mindset, as the name in English suggests, is the configuration of our mind.
It is the way we think, organize each of these thoughts and, consequently, the way we behave, based on our beliefs and life stories.
Since we are not all the same, each human being has accounting directors email address their own mindset. Mindset, therefore, is also an individual worldview.
Types of mindset
According to the book “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success”, by American psychologist Carol Dweck, there are two types of mindset (or mental models): fixed and growth.
The fixed mindset believes that we are born with a certain level of ability and we cannot change that.
The growth mindset believes that we can develop our abilities through work and effort. This mindset is also known as a progressive or growing mindset.
How to make them work for us
Each mindset causes the person who holds it to deal with their problems differently.
According to the consultant at the Career and Employability Center at MMurad | FGV , Neidy Christo, people with a fixed mindset become very discouraged by problems and tend to lose interest and give up on solving them.
People with a growth mindset, on the other hand, see a problem as an opportunity to learn and tend to make more of an effort to overcome it.
“That’s why it’s important to identify what our predominant mindset is so that we can change it if necessary. Our brain continues to develop and change even when we’re adults. Therefore, it’s possible to have a growth mindset at any point in life, and learning is the key to our growth and continuous improvement,” explains Neidy.
