What is the solidarity economy?

Post by olivia25 »

The Solidarity Economy (EcoSol) is a global movement that aims to build a fair and sustainable economy that prioritizes people and the planet over profit and unbridled growth. EcoSol is the result of the efforts of social movements, especially in Latin America and the Global South, and offers real alternatives to traditional and unsustainable capitalism. In EcoSol, organizations govern themselves through instruments of participatory democracy, cooperation and public ownership, and a culture of solidarity and respect for the earth and people.

In this sense, according to economist Marco Arruda, the Solidarity Economy refers to the activities of production, distribution and consumption that contribute to the democratization of the economy, both locally and globally. Furthermore, the Solidarity Economy exists based on a dynamic of reciprocity and solidarity that links individual gambling data qatar interests to collective interests. Therefore, EcoSol cannot be considered a sector of the economy, but rather a transversal approach that includes initiatives in all sectors.

Professor Nazaré Soares states that EcoSol also involves forms of ethical consumption, women's empowerment initiatives, the strengthening of community and ecological agriculture, social money, ethical finance, fair trade, community services, the development of appropriate and democratized technologies, and the promotion of socialized forms of ownership and management of assets and development activities. These characteristics are directly related to issues related to sustainability and respect for local community logic and nature.

Therefore, the Solidarity Economy can be considered an instrument of empowerment and social change that emerges from initiatives with different formats, but which fundamentally aim to maintain control over the way in which products and services are produced, consumed, saved, invested and exchanged. It is a model of popular economy based on the community and locally. In other words, EcoSol's focus is to build sustainable development from civil society, using the policies and resources of the State as complementary to its own actions and resources.
