If you've spent a significant amount of time on YouTube, you've probably noticed that many channels are monetized. Whether it's through YouTube subscriptions, donations through an external sponsorship site, or collaborations with brands.

When it comes to creators partnering with brands on YouTube , the concept isn’t new. In fact, it was the advent of influencer marketing that helped create the concept of paid sponsorships. Previously, social media content creators would post content either to attract new subscribers or to maintain the attention of subscribers. Monetization options were minimal at best.

The rise of influencer marketing changed everything in this regard. Over time, influencers began to receive paid sponsorships because brands saw the value in this advertising. Spending on influencer marketing has grown to the point that some companies spend a large portion of their marketing budget on it. This trend continues: as more brands become hungry for more content, content creators are finding new ways to monetize their followers, including creating courses and NFTs. Content is no longer about content marketing. Increasingly, content creation is becoming a side hustle and even a full-time job.

Video remains the most trending content on social media

While social media started out as a primarily text and image-based medium, it has long since expanded beyond that. Social media now features videos of all lengths and types. Some are complex, while others can be shot on a smartphone and shared immediately. The options are endless, so it’s no surprise that video content is one of the social media trends for 2023.

According to YouTube, users watch an impressive 1 billion hours of content every day. Given the world’s population, that means that on average, every person watches YouTube every day. This is even more impressive when you consider that a large percentage of YouTube’s hours are generated by consumers.

However, YouTube is not the only platform with video content. There is Facebook Live, Vimeo, Instagram and many other platforms. Taken together, the potential for promotion through video is incredible.
