In the last programme we started talking about display advertising , namely banners, the static or animated adverts made up of images, text and/or video that we see every day on web pages. Today we will continue talking about display, but this time of a very different breed.

As promised, this program is dedicated to Remarketing , also known as Retargeting. Have you ever felt like there is a certain ad following you around the Internet? Well, let us assure you right now that your sanity remains intact and that the truth is: there is an ad on your tail and it will not give up on you easily. This is remarketing.

HOW REMARKETING WORKS
Ads that follow people? Yes, exactly, but not just any person. If you keep seeing ads for a course from company X, for example, it’s because you’ve been on the company’s website before; if you keep seeing that cryptocurrency data pair of shoes from brand Z, it’s because you’ve been on the brand’s website looking for some shoes. You probably actually looked at those shoes or that particular course because remarketing campaigns can target all visitors to a website or just those who’ve been on pages selected by the advertiser.

How is this possible?! It's actually quite simple. You've probably noticed the information about cookies when you visit a website for the first time. Yes, that notice that you don't even read, just clicking ok, I authorize or I understand. It's precisely cookies that make remarketing possible.

WHAT ARE COOKIES
A cookie is a file that is stored on your computer when you visit a website and from that moment on its destination is determined: it becomes part of a list of users to whom remarketing ads will be displayed, if the company has a campaign running.

But don’t worry. It won’t last forever – cookies have an expiration date; if you set them to 30 days, for example, they’ll automatically be deleted after that and you’ll immediately stop being on the list of people to whom you’ll be shown ads. Unless you visit the site again.

And you don't have to worry about your privacy either: the information collected through cookies is anonymous , no one will know your name, age, etc. unless you provide this data by filling out a form.

REMARKETING: MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO BUSINESS
The motivations for an advertiser to engage in remarketing are fairly obvious. Essentially, it’s a way to bring users back to the site and give them a new opportunity (or several) to generate a lead or sell a product . Since the user has already visited the site, the ads will look familiar and will be more relevant than most banners because they are much more targeted .

But the many benefits of remarketing or retargeting will be covered in the next program . In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us via email at sitemapfm@gmail.com . And here's a tip: if you want to stop seeing remarketing ads, there's a simple solution : just clear your browser's cookies. But don't tell anyone, because we at TRIGGER make a living from this stuff.
