Let’s look at some progressive goal setting frameworks that can help you at this stage.

While you may feel more comfortable with traditional models, such as SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals, flexibility is key to setting realistic benchmarks. Consider the CLEAR model to be more agile in a fast-changing environment .

CLEAR goals are evaluated based on the following characteristics:

Good: They are broken down into smaller micro-goals
Redefinable: can be redefined based on circumstances and needs
Additionally, if you feel that KPIs are too technical or limited in scope, set OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to make your goals more flexible:

Set every goal as a challenge
Define three or four key results per objective
Measure your goals with a 0-100% progress indicator

Evaluate goals based on new conditions
Adjust a goal if it becomes irrelevant (even if you didn't anticipate it)
With this approach, you can set a high bar but set a minimum threshold to reach the goal. Progress indicators (0-100%) allow each team member to see how achievable each goal is and understand what remains to be accomplished.

Unlike KPIs, which can only be reset for each new quarter, OKR goals can be updated at any time if the initial conditions change. With OKRs, you won’t waste time working on goals that are no longer relevant to you.
